The Secret is Not a Secret

March 20th 2007 07:15

Hello Everybody,

I apologize for the leave of absence. I wasn’t going to write about this because well, I just wasn’t. I have tried to stay off the radar on this one, but alas I have a policy of truth and honesty to myself and well this blog. Here it goes: “The Secret” as it has been portrayed in the DVD produced by Rhonda Byrne really isn’t a secret at all. What is interesting is watching everybody scramble to make money off of people who want a better life. Now granted, I have been using these spiritual principles for well over eighteen years. I won’t call them laws as they are becoming known as these days on all the talk circuits. These principles are free and are available for all who seek them. There is no great mystery or secret. In fact, you don’t have to dig too deep to see where the producers have grabbed all their material. It has just been repackaged and remarketed to sell more books, DVD’s, and talk shows. As a very intuitive and spiritual person who was put on his path many moons ago, it saddens me to think that people are exploiting spiritual principles under the guise of helping others. I know I will be cast as a “negative thinking” person who can’t see the good that is being done, but this is not it at all. I actually feel for all those people who will run out and buy all the accessories in search of the spiritual answers they seek.

As a life coach, therapist, and spiritual person, I feel an ethical responsibility to actually say what I feel about this topic, and it is this: NOBODY SHOULD BE GETTING RICH ON SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLES! I can only imagine the karma that comes with that and I don’t want to be around when the fallout happens. I mean what hurts so bad is that I have used these principles in my life for over eighteen years and “they” are right they do work, but you must know how to use them. Not everybody who runs out and gets the book or DVD is going to be able to manifest all that they want, and it’s not that they won’t try, or that they don’t deserve it, etc. It’s that there is so much more involved and without the proper mentor or teacher, some will ultimately fail, and this is too bad, because it seems that if this was really about personal development or spirituality we would not be selling programs entitled “The Science of Getting Rich” for close to TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. YEP you heard me right, for near TWO THOUSAND dollars you too can become rich. Go and buy Napoleon Hill’s classic, “Think and Grow Rich” for two dollars at your bookstore.

Now the people who are selling these programs are people that seem to have a “spiritual” background and this is what is most distressing to me. How can somebody talk about helping somebody get out of debt with “The Secret” when you are charging somebody close to two thousand dollars for a program that is not a secret and that they can receive for free? This boggles the mind as most people who buy this program are going to charge it on their credit card and will pay interest on this amount for God knows how long. The worst of it is that these so called “teachers” are supposed to have a spiritual base of knowledge and claim that money is not the purpose but rather getting to know one’s self and that somehow starting with manifesting money is just the beginning and will allow people to then be more effective in producing their life’s work. I say that if they told you the TRUTH that spiritual principles are NOT to be sold and are to be TAUGHT and passed on to those who are worthy, and by that I mean responsible. The fact that this particular program has an “affiliate” program that allows you to sign up others to buy this program that costs near TWO THOUSAND dollars just boggles the mind. Where is the accountability and responsibility for all those who will buy this and will not get the help they need?

I am a big believer in the spiritual principles at work here and I do firmly believe that “like attracts like” and in this case, all I can do, is stand clear as I watch this travesty takes place. It has actually brought me back to assisting others for next to nothing. My fear is that there will be such a “backlash” or “fallout” from all these so-called “teachers” who are attaching their names to anything to do with “The Secret.” In fact, it gives a bad name to those who practice spiritual principles everyday without the vested interest of exploiting the principles for personal gain. This goes directly against what the principles would teach.

We must give away freely of what we find otherwise we cannot keep it. We are like a vessel and once we are full, we must practice giving it away to keep it. We cannot continue to just take and take. This is an imbalance and it will have spiritual consequences. If anybody has any questions about this or would like more information about what is being coined as a secret, feel free to comment or to write me.

I stayed quiet as long as I could, but alas I was going to implode. Just for the record, I don’t want anybody to misunderstand or think that I am judging them for purchasing the book, DVD, or even the course. I am glad the message is getting out, my only regret is the lack of integrity for the way the “teachers” have handled the exploitation of the principles and the lack of responsibility for the genuine people who want and need change in their lives. I believe this will be where the “healers” come in and clean up the mess after the fad has come and gone. O.K. there I said it, and I feel much better…I must be on track again…lol.

In Peace and Gratitude,

George

Hi George,

Aside from the obvious 'buy my chicken soup book' type of people in The Secret, what's your take on the 'theory of attraction'...
