Taking Action
January 10th 2007 07:41
Hello Everybody,
Wow it’s hard to believe we are already on January 10th. I want to congratulate all of you that have taken this opportunity to create the life you want for yourself by creating goals and affirmations. You may be asking what could possibly be next? While some of you may already be experiencing the positive effects of the goal setting and affirmations, others may be experiencing difficulties, and this is normal. We often find resistance, when trying to change major things in our lives. This is actually a blessing in disguise as we will know where we need to focus our attention to overcome the obstacle.
Don’t despair this is normal especially if it is something that has been programmed in you for the past 10, 20, or 30 years. What I mean by programmed, is any negative comment or action that was told to you by a former teacher, spouse, coach, or family member. The brain is like a computer and it records what we put in regardless of the content, it doesn’t judge good or bad, right or wrong. So don’t give up thinking that goals don’t work because you did not attain what you wanted in a short time. If it took 40 years to create such thinking, it will take a little while to retrain the brain!
There may be three things that come up for us when we try to do our affirmations. The first is the negative programming that tells us we can’t do whatever it is that we are trying to accomplish. We need to know where this resistance lies so we can counter it with focused affirmations and self-talk. The second is fear. Good old FEAR. Often times this is thought of as False Evidence Appearing Real. We need to be aware of our fears because this often signals us we are out of our comfort zone, and the way to eliminate this is to take action. We can think of this as Face Everything And Resolve. The third are roadblocks. These may be things that are legitimately blocking us and that may be out of our control, but we can find ways to hurdle them once we identify them.
Now you can do this next exercise by creating three columns and labeling the first “My Goals.” The second can be labeled “Challenges” and the third “Solutions.” List your goals from the previous post on “Goals vs. Resolutions” and put down the things that may sabotage you in the “Challenges” column. Lastly think of solutions to these challenges so that you will overcome your challenges and attain your goals. Often times we find out our “Challenges” when we start doing our affirmations and get resistance. Now if you’re soaring right along and have had a few “happy coincidences” taking place in your life…CONGRATULATIONS.
In Success and Gratitude,
George
