The Successful Path - January 2007

Moving Forward

January 19th 2007 03:54
Hello Everybody,

By now most of you have already completed your goals for 2007 and have created affirmations that you are reading at least two times a day. You’re doing your visualizations and creating the world you want. You’ve released the brakes and are soaring! This is the time when you may have some insights, thoughts, or ideas. Many times people start to have those “happy coincidences” of seeing things they wanted manifest or something they were seeking is presented to them. If not don’t despair it takes time and energy.

This week we will be taking action. We will do that in a couple of different ways.

Exercise

First I want you to make a list of what Jack Canfield in “The Success Principles” refers to as “Messes and Incompletes.” Basically it’s anything which steals your attention and energy. If you have phone calls you need to make, a squeaky door that bothers you, your desk is overloaded with paperwork, well you get the idea. The idea behind this is that every time we look at something like a desk that is a mess, we feel our energy being removed. It makes us feel bad and less motivated to work. Now if you have enough of these things in your life, you are not going to be successful. When we have not completed past tasks we are not fully in the present. So take a walk around your house or office and just see what is in your life that is a “mess” or “incomplete” and put it on your list. Now a “mess” might just be a pair of pants you need to take to be hemmed, and an “incomplete” may be bigger like you need to clean out the garage. Now mind you, it doesn’t have to be a physical thing, it can be a relationship with your brother, sister, or boss that is just not right. Maybe you need to make a phone call and apologize for something or set things straight. Whether we are aware of it or not, these “incompletes” drain our energy. So by completing these tasks we create more time to focus on what we really want. Not to mention it makes us feel good and increases our self-esteem to have a nice clean desk or garage.

Now we can divide our list into minor messes and major incompletes and commit to completing one minor mess in the next 30 days and one major incomplete from our list in the next 90 days. The way we will do this is by applying Canfield’s MTO or “Minimum Goal” that you would commit to completing your goal. The “Target Goal” you would commit to completing your goal and the “Outrageous Goal” you would commit to completing your goal.

Example: Cleaning out the garage
Minimum Goal: Schedule 2 hours to clean out the junk in the garage
Target Goal: Devote an entire Saturday to cleaning out the junk in the garage
Outrageous Goal: You clean out the junk in the garage paint and install new lighting and cabinets.

Also on a more psychological, spiritual, and even physical level, when we clear out old stuff, we make room for new things to come into our lives. I’ve seen this principle at work many times. So how many things do you need to complete before you move on in your goals?
Here are some ideas to jog your brain from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles”

1. Former business activities
2. Promises not kept, not acknowledged, or not renegotiated
3. Unpaid debts or financial commitments (money owed to others or to you)
4. Closets overflowing with clothing never worn
5. A disorganized garage crowded with old discards
6. Haphazard or disorganized tax records
7. Checkbook not balanced or accounts that should be closed
8. “Junk drawers” full of unusable items
9. Missing or broken tools
10. An attic filled with unused items
11. A car trunk or backseat full of trash
12. Incomplete car maintenance
13. A disorganized basement filled with discarded items
14. Credenza packed with completed or unrealized projects
15. Filing left undone
16. Computer files not backed up or data needing to be converted
17. Desk surface cluttered or disorganized
18. Family pictures never put into an album
19. Mending, ironing, or other piles of items to repair or discard
20. Deferred household maintenance
21. Personal relationships with unstated resentments or appreciations
22. People you need to forgive
23. Time not spent with people you’ve been meaning to spend time with
24. Incomplete projects or projects delivered without closure or feedback
25. Acknowledgements that need to be given or asked for

I hope this has been helpful in moving you forward on your goals! I’m wishing you much prosperity in 2007.

Taking Action

January 10th 2007 07:41
Hello Everybody,

Wow it’s hard to believe we are already on January 10th. I want to congratulate all of you that have taken this opportunity to create the life you want for yourself by creating goals and affirmations. You may be asking what could possibly be next? While some of you may already be experiencing the positive effects of the goal setting and affirmations, others may be experiencing difficulties, and this is normal. We often find resistance, when trying to change major things in our lives. This is actually a blessing in disguise as we will know where we need to focus our attention to overcome the obstacle.

Don’t despair this is normal especially if it is something that has been programmed in you for the past 10, 20, or 30 years. What I mean by programmed, is any negative comment or action that was told to you by a former teacher, spouse, coach, or family member. The brain is like a computer and it records what we put in regardless of the content, it doesn’t judge good or bad, right or wrong. So don’t give up thinking that goals don’t work because you did not attain what you wanted in a short time. If it took 40 years to create such thinking, it will take a little while to retrain the brain!

There may be three things that come up for us when we try to do our affirmations. The first is the negative programming that tells us we can’t do whatever it is that we are trying to accomplish. We need to know where this resistance lies so we can counter it with focused affirmations and self-talk. The second is fear. Good old FEAR. Often times this is thought of as False Evidence Appearing Real. We need to be aware of our fears because this often signals us we are out of our comfort zone, and the way to eliminate this is to take action. We can think of this as Face Everything And Resolve. The third are roadblocks. These may be things that are legitimately blocking us and that may be out of our control, but we can find ways to hurdle them once we identify them.

Now you can do this next exercise by creating three columns and labeling the first “My Goals.” The second can be labeled “Challenges” and the third “Solutions.” List your goals from the previous post on “Goals vs. Resolutions” and put down the things that may sabotage you in the “Challenges” column. Lastly think of solutions to these challenges so that you will overcome your challenges and attain your goals. Often times we find out our “Challenges” when we start doing our affirmations and get resistance. Now if you’re soaring right along and have had a few “happy coincidences” taking place in your life…CONGRATULATIONS.

In Success and Gratitude,

Affirmations in Action

January 7th 2007 08:04
An affirmation is nothing more than a statement that we create to affirm the things we want in life. It can be as simple as, “I am enough” or “I am healthy, wealthy, and wise.” The trick to affirmations is to write them in the present tense as if they are happening now. You want to avoid words such as “I’m going to…” or “In the future…” The purpose of the affirmation is to program the subconscious mind into accepting what we want in our life so it can manifest it. This may be easy for some and more difficult for others depending on our life experiences and previous programming. By programming, I mean things that others may have told us that may not be true. You see the mind is like a computer and it makes no distinction between positive and negative statements. So if we had a critical parent, teacher, or coach, who may have said something to us that was extremely negative or hurtful, the mind records it like a computer without acknowledging the validity of what was said. This is why it is so important to phrase our affirmations in the positive.

Rather than say, “I won’t eat fattening foods,” it is far more effective to say, “I am eating healthy fruits and vegetables.” See the difference? Now the idea is to take your Wish List that you created from your goals sheet and turn them into affirmations. Once you have created your affirmations, you might want to write them on 3x5 cards and read them at least twice a day. You can read them in the morning and the evening if you like. Another way is to print them on sticky notes and put them where you will see them constantly, like on your bathroom mirror. The idea is to read them with your full attention and conviction. You must say it as if you believe it.

Now if you find yourself reading something like, “I am my ideal body weight of 160lbs.” and it feels like a lie, just keep reading it out loud until it sounds true. The reason it may not feel true is because of all the negative programming that we may have around being our ideal body weight. This is normal and to be expected, so just keep reading them out loud twice daily. If you find that you have a strong resistance to a particular affirmation, you might want to increase the frequency. Another important aspect is to be sure to be specific as possible. Saying I am my ideal body weight of 160lbs. is more effective than saying I want to lose some weight.

Often times, people add the phrase, “this or something better,” to not limit what they may achieve. I’m sure if somebody was using the affirmation of, “I am receiving a million dollars for_______________,” would be o.k. with receiving two million! Now you know how to affirm the life you want so go get to work. May you all have a prosperous new year!

Goals vs. Resolutions for 2007

January 2nd 2007 05:14
Hello Everybody,

I'm gearing up to create my goals for my personal and professional life for 2007. I believe this is so much more powerful than resolutions. I like to do this throughout the year, but the New Year is a good time to refresh them and see what needs to be accomplished
